Besides major disruptions to health, economic, political and social systems, the pandemic has brought with it other unseen threats rising in the digital space.
The increase in cyberattacks has raised global concern as individuals are increasingly relying on digital tools during the pandemic. Hackers are targeting this increased dependence as many of them are improperly secured to the outside digital world.
The biggest risk of a broad based cyber-attack – in a worst case scenario – is that it could cause widespread infrastructure failure that takes entire cities or communities offline and in turn inhibit health care and public communication mechanisms.
